World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life
Sunday, February 5
In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This day is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This feast is also known as Candelmas Day, the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day.

In 2007, the Congregation for the Clergy invited women to consider making a commitment of prayer and sacrifice for the sanctification of priests. In our diocese many women have made a yearly commitment to pray for a particular priest, seminarian or discerner through our Spiritual Motherhood program. This includes a commitment to prayer and offerings for the priests of our diocese, who greatly need our prayers and spiritual support.
For more information on Spiritual Motherhood, please read “Eucharistic Adoration for the Sanctification of Priests and Spiritual Maternity” published by the Congregation for the Clergy. The book Praying for Priests by Kathleen Beckman and published by Sophia Press is also a wonderful resource.
If you would be interested in learning more about this commitment please consider joining us for:
